Ottawa’s Gabriela Dabrowski and Barbora Krejcikova from Czechia have progressed to the next round at the Cincinnati Open. They secured a victory against the fourth-seeded duo of Cristina Bucsa from Spain and Nicole Melichar-Martinez from the United States with a score of 6-3, 1-6, 10-4 in the Round of 32 of the women’s doubles event. This tournament marks the first time Dabrowski and Krejcikova have teamed up. Their next opponents in the Round of 16 on Tuesday will be the unseeded Czech pair of Linda Noskova and Marie Bouzkova.
Later on Monday, Leylah Fernandez from Laval, Que., and her partner Sara Errani from Italy competed against Romania’s Sorana Cirstea and Mira Andreeva from Russia. Fernandez faced a defeat against China’s Xiyu Wang in the women’s singles tournament’s second round on Sunday.
