A powerful tornado struck the village of Pomas in southern France, causing extensive damage to over 300 homes and leaving numerous individuals injured. Fortunately, no one has been reported missing in the aftermath of the disaster.
According to the Aude prefecture, as of Tuesday morning, around 1,400 households remained without electricity. The tornado was captured swirling over the village of Verzeille, located a few kilometers east of Pomas, in a video shared on social media and verified by Reuters. The destructive path of the tornado resulted in shattered windows in many homes.
Images obtained from social media and verified by Reuters show the tornado moving through Preixan, situated a few kilometers north of Pomas.
In the wake of the tornado, residents are now assessing the damage and beginning the cleanup process. A man is pictured amidst the debris of a damaged house in Pomas, while the roof of the Saint Julien et Sainte Basilisse church collapsed, scattering debris inside. Fallen trees are seen in a cemetery in Pomas, and individuals are seen covering a damaged building roof with a tarp. Additionally, pedestrians are observed walking past a fallen tree near the damaged homes in Pomas.
The community is working to recover and rebuild after the devastating tornado struck, causing widespread destruction and disruption.
