“Macklemore’s Sold-Out Free Palestine Tour Sparks Global Support”

Published:

Macklemore’s announcement of a fundraising tour to support Palestinians has generated significant interest, with all three shows being sold out immediately. The tour, named the Free Palestine tour, includes October dates in Dublin, Paris, and London. While the lineup for the shows remains undisclosed, the initial post hinted at the presence of the rapper “and friends,” with further details to be revealed soon.

The decision to embark on the three-show European run followed Macklemore’s removal as an opener for Ed Sheeran’s U.S. tour leg. Expressing gratitude for the overwhelming response, Macklemore emphasized the importance of musicians standing in solidarity with Palestine and leveraging their platforms to raise funds for the cause.

Live Nation’s press release confirmed that the tour proceeds will benefit various Palestinian aid organizations, such as Gaza Soup Kitchen, Palestinian Youth Movement, Jewish Voice for Peace, and UNRWA USA. Despite inquiries about potential Canadian shows, Macklemore’s representatives have not provided any updates.

The tour’s inception stemmed from Macklemore’s dismissal from Sheeran’s tour due to pressure from venue owners threatening to cancel shows if the rapper remained as the opening act. Notably, Robert Kraft, chairman and CEO of The Kraft Group, played a pivotal role in this decision. Macklemore’s longstanding pro-Palestinian stance and vocal support for the cause have been evident throughout his career.

Following Sheeran’s public statement addressing the controversy, all other openers, including his backing band, withdrew from the tour. Sheeran, during a performance in Philadelphia, clarified his intentions, stating that he never aspired to be an activist musician. Ultimately, the shows at Gillette Stadium were canceled due to adverse weather conditions.
