Hurricane Isaias struck the U.S. Gulf Coast as a dangerous Category 2 storm, bringing strong winds and heavy rainfall, and posing a threat of flooding to low-lying areas. The storm made its first landfall near Destin, Florida, according to the U.S. National Hurricane Center based in Miami. With maximum sustained winds reaching 169 km/h, Isaias rapidly intensified as it moved towards the northern Gulf Coast. The hurricane center issued warnings of potentially destructive winds and dangerous storm surges impacting the Florida Panhandle and southern Alabama. Residents in these areas were advised to evacuate in anticipation of the storm’s arrival.
