In a batch of 23,000 documents provided to the US House Oversight Committee by the estate of deceased sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, former Donald Trump aide Steve Bannon was found joking about Epstein serving as the link between the US President and then-Prince Andrew during Trump’s initial state visit to the UK. The documents coincided with Trump’s visit, where he and Melania participated in a wreath-laying ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Warrior, joined by Prince Andrew.
Epstein reportedly messaged Bannon following the event, noting the presence of Prince Andrew and Trump, to which Bannon responded, highlighting Epstein as the connecting factor. The White House press secretary, Karoline Leavitt, accused Democrats of selectively leaking emails to tarnish Trump’s reputation.
Virginia Giuffre, who accused Prince Andrew of improper conduct, had previously worked at Trump’s Mar A Lago resort in Florida before allegedly being introduced to Epstein by Ghislaine Maxwell.
In an email exchange from 2011, Prince Andrew denied any involvement in the sex abuse allegations against him and Epstein, seeking assurance from Epstein to publicly clarify the situation. Epstein later acknowledged Giuffre’s photo with Andrew.
Epstein also mentioned that former UK ambassador Peter Mandelson advised him to steer clear of Andrew in 2016. The emails revealed ongoing communication between Mandelson and Epstein until at least 2016.
Epstein’s death in a New York jail in 2019 while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges added to the controversy surrounding Andrew, who settled a lawsuit with Giuffre for a reported sum in 2022 without accepting guilt.
In a 2019 BBC interview, Andrew claimed no recollection of meeting Giuffre but admitted to having interactions with Epstein before and after his conviction. He also confirmed visits to Epstein’s properties and encounters with Maxwell.
Following the release of her posthumous memoir, King Charles stripped Andrew of his royal title and is evicting him from Royal Lodge. Andrew’s future remains uncertain amid ongoing scrutiny and legal battles related to the Epstein case.
