Anthony Joshua made a somber visit to a funeral home to pay his respects to Sina Ghami and Latif Ayodele after being released from the hospital. Joshua sustained minor injuries in a car accident on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, where both of his close friends tragically lost their lives.

The British boxer has now left the hospital in Lagos and will continue his recovery at his home in Nigeria. Prior to that, he accompanied his mother to the funeral home where Ghami and Ayodele are resting.

A statement from the local government expressed condolences to the families of the deceased individuals and emphasized prayers for their souls’ repose and strength for their loved ones during this difficult time.

Joshua, accompanied by his mother, paid his final respects to his departed friends at the Lagos funeral home before their repatriation later that evening.

The Governors of Ogun State and Lagos State appreciated the support and concern from the public and dignitaries, including President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR, during this tragic incident. They also praised the medical team at Lagoon Hospital Ikoyi for their exceptional care and professionalism.

The fatal accident occurred when Joshua’s black SUV collided with a stationary truck, resulting in the untimely death of his companions. The investigation is ongoing, with authorities searching for the truck driver who illegally parked on the highway shoulder.

The driver of the SUV, after being discharged from the hospital, provided a statement to the police. According to Babatunde Akinbiyi, overspeeding and a burst front tire on the passenger side led to the loss of control and subsequent collision with the parked truck.

The Nigerian police continue their inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the accident, focusing on the illegal parking of the truck and the factors contributing to the fatal collision.
