“Canadian Basketball Hall of Fame 2026 Inducts Stellar Class”

Published:

The 2026 induction ceremony for the Canadian Basketball Hall of Fame was held on Thursday, honoring notable figures such as former NBA player Jamaal Magloire, ex-Carleton Ravens men’s head coach Dave Smart, and Olympic flag-bearer Miranda Ayim.

Magloire, who spent 12 seasons in the NBA and was the first Canadian to play for the Toronto Raptors in 2011, achieved all-star status in 2004 with the Memphis Grizzlies. He later transitioned into coaching, serving as an assistant coach for the Raptors during their championship season in 2018-19 and currently holding the position of vice-president for the Scarborough Shooting Stars in the Canadian Elite Basketball League.

Smart’s tenure as head coach at Carleton University marked a period of dominance, with the Ravens securing 13 U Sports championships under his leadership.

Ayim, known for her role as captain of Canada’s senior women’s national basketball team, had the honor of being a co-flag-bearer alongside rugby sevens player Nathan Hirayama at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021.

The class of 2026, unveiled on July 2, also includes inductees Michael Meeks, Anna Stammberger, Dan Meagher, and Teresa Kleindienst, along with coaches Peter (Doc) Ryan, official Janice Deakin, and builder Dr. Andrew Pipe. The 10-member class will be formally enshrined at a ceremony in St. Stephen, N.B.
