“Canadian duo advances to quarterfinals in Montreal Elite beach volleyball”

Canada’s Melissa Humana-Paredes and Brandie Wilkerson advanced to the quarterfinals of the Montreal Elite beach volleyball pro tour event by defeating Brazil’s Thamela Coradello and Victoria Lopes with a score of 21-13, 21-18. The Toronto-based Olympic silver medallists are currently leading Pool A with a perfect 3-0 record.

Wilkerson emphasized the importance of clear pre-game strategies, adaptability, and effective communication between them. She highlighted their trust in defense and side-out play, emphasizing the need for resilience and determination throughout the competition.

On the other hand, Lea Monkhouse from Mississauga, Ont., and Marie-Alex Belanger from Saint-Alphonse-Rodriguez, Que., faced setbacks after losing two matches, bringing their record to 0-3 in the tournament.

In the men’s division, Sam Schachter from Richmond Hill, Ont., and Jonny Pickett from Wiarton, Ont., suffered a defeat against Brazil’s Andre Loyola Stein and Renato Lima with a score of 21-13, 23-21. Despite the loss, the Canadian duo secured a spot in the playoffs with a 1-2 standing.

Meanwhile, Steve Abrams from Georgetown, Ont., and Cameron Chadwick from Barrie, Ont., struggled with a 0-3 record after a challenging match against Americans Taylor Crabb and Andy Benesh, resulting in a 21-23, 21-18, 15-12 defeat.

The competition at Parc Jean-Drapeau will continue until Sunday, offering exciting beach volleyball action in Montreal.
