The Federal Court has mandated the disclosure of previously undisclosed sections from a September 1986 report commissioned for a significant federal inquiry on war crimes. In a recent public ruling, Federal Court Justice Simon Fothergill instructed the government to reveal redacted portions of the study concerning the resettlement of suspected Nazi war criminals in Canada post-World War II.
For years, B’nai Brith Canada has been advocating for greater transparency regarding the report authored by Alti Rodal. Earlier in February 2024, Library and Archives Canada unveiled some additional segments of the report following a request for access to information from B’nai Brith. However, certain parts, including details regarding the involvement of American intelligence agencies in aiding the migration of Nazi collaborators to Canada, were still being withheld.
Fothergill dismissed the government’s argument that disclosing further information could negatively impact Canada’s international relationships.
