Federal Defence Minister David McGuinty emphasized the significant military investments and the importance of a resilient Alberta within Canada. His remarks coincide with the upcoming Confederation vote in Alberta on October 19.
During a joint appearance with Alberta Premier Danielle Smith at Canadian Forces Base Edmonton, McGuinty highlighted how Alberta’s vision and ambition contribute to the nation’s growth. He underscored that the unity of Canada is a collective commitment passed down through generations, particularly evident in times of conflict.
McGuinty reiterated that Alberta is benefiting from continuous financial support, including $8 billion in funding. This includes $550 million allocated for establishing the western operating base for the Air Force’s CC-330 Husky fleet, positioning Alberta at the forefront of air defense capabilities.
Premier Smith praised the funding allocation for bolstering Alberta’s air defense capabilities and emphasized the collaborative efforts between Canada and Ottawa showcased by this announcement.
The upcoming referendum ballot includes ten questions, including whether Alberta should remain part of Canada or proceed with a second binding referendum on independence.
