A dozen people lost their lives and multiple others were wounded in Kyiv and its vicinity early Tuesday due to Russian airstrikes, marking the sixth consecutive day of attacks on the Ukrainian capital. The full-scale invasion of Ukraine by Russia in 2022 has led to an increase in air assaults on Ukraine, particularly targeting Kyiv and nearby areas in recent months as Russia’s advancements on the battlefield have slowed significantly.
In the past five days, Kyiv has been under siege from numerous jet engine-powered drones, causing casualties, property damage, and disrupting daily life for residents with continuous air-raid alerts. The ongoing strikes have resulted in a significant impact on routine activities for millions of people.
Additional explosions were reported in the capital on Tuesday morning, according to a witness from Reuters. Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha revealed that Russian drones and ballistic missiles had struck residential zones and railway infrastructure in extensive overnight assaults.
Sybiha urged Ukraine’s allies to intensify economic sanctions against Russia and explore utilizing Russia’s frozen assets abroad to support Ukraine’s war efforts. He emphasized the need for increased air defense systems for Ukraine, especially the shortage of U.S.-made Patriot interceptors capable of intercepting Russia’s ballistic missiles. “It is crucial to send a clear message to the Kremlin that diplomatic gestures are no longer effective,” Sybiha stated.

On Tuesday, a total of eight individuals, primarily railway workers, were killed in overnight attacks in Kyiv, with further explosions heard in the morning. Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported three additional injuries in a daytime drone strike that ignited a blaze in a high-rise residential building.
In Boryspil, located just outside Kyiv, four individuals were killed and another 13 injured in an assault targeting a residential complex and other structures, as stated by Governor Tymur Tkachenko on Telegram. Among the casualties outside Kyiv was an Indian citizen.
Yevhen Zavhorodniy, a resident of Boryspil, recounted the aftermath of the attack, pointing out the impact on his surroundings but expressing gratitude for the safety of his family. Zavhorodniy, who recently relocated his family from Eastern Ukraine, highlighted the resilience despite the destruction.
Russian airstrikes also targeted a border crossing with Romania, a NATO member, in Odesa on the Black Sea coast, leaving numerous families without electricity, according to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
