“Murder Suspect Nick Reiner Denied Access to $1.5M Trust Fund”

Published:

Nick Reiner, accused of murdering his parents, Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner, has been refused access to the $1.5 million US trust fund he sought for his legal defense. In a June filing, Reiner attempted to claim allegedly unpaid funds from a trust his parents set up for him in 1993.

Trustees declined Reiner’s request based on the “slayer statute,” a California law that prohibits individuals who have intentionally killed someone from inheriting money or property. Rob Reiner, a renowned director and actor, and Michele, a photographer and producer, were fatally stabbed in their California home on December 14, 2025. Their son Nick Reiner was arrested shortly after.

Facing murder charges, the 32-year-old pleaded not guilty after being indicted by a Los Angeles County grand jury. The indictment alleges that Reiner planned the attack on his parents, raising the possibility of the death penalty. District Attorney Nathan Hochman has yet to decide on pursuing this penalty.

Reiner is set to appear in court for a pretrial hearing in September, represented by public defender Kimberly Greene. Apart from the main trust fund, individual funds were established for Reiner and his siblings. Reiner was entitled to half of his fund at 30 and the remainder at 35, but he claims he never received the allocated funds.

Private attorney Alan Jackson initially represented Reiner but left without explanation. Reiner’s siblings, Jake and Romy Reiner, initially agreed to cover his legal fees but later reversed their decision. The trust fund totaling at least $1.5 million US remains inaccessible pending the outcome of the criminal case and potential application of the “slayer statute.”

Eight months after the tragic event, many details are still undisclosed, and authorities have not speculated on motives. Jake Reiner publicly shared his ordeal following his parents’ murder and the attention surrounding his brother’s case.

Rob Reiner, known for his extensive contributions to the film industry, had a successful career as a director and actor. He met Michele during the filming of “When Harry Met Sally,” a movie that inspired him to change its ending. Their enduring relationship spanned 36 years before the tragic incident.
