Sky has introduced new smart home plans in the UK that compete with popular home security devices like Ring doorbells and Google’s Nest system. These plans offer internet-connected cameras with full cloud recordings starting at just £5 per month, a price point Sky claims could save consumers over £100 compared to purchasing a Ring system from Amazon.
The plans include two options: the first one features a Sky Smart Doorbell and Chime for £5 per month plus a £15 upfront fee. This package provides full HD video recording, instant alerts to your phone, customisable activity zones, two-way talk, and 30 days of cloud video storage.
For those seeking additional security features, there is the Smart Home Bundle with Smart Home Plan+ priced at £8 per month with a £20 upfront fee. This bundle includes an indoor camera and extra app functionalities such as scheduled arming and automatic arm modes.
Paul Sweeney, Managing Director of Sky Smart Home, emphasized that Sky aims to make high-quality smart technology more accessible and user-friendly. The company’s focus is on simplifying home security solutions to ensure seamless connectivity without complexity.
These new plans mark a shift for Sky, as they make their home security devices more accessible as standalone services. Previously, Sky primarily offered Protect Smart Home Insurance, which bundled cameras and alarms.
Comparatively, Amazon currently sells the Ring Doorbell with Chime for £119.99, discounted by £20. Customers looking to add cloud recording would also need a Ring Protect subscription, starting at £4.99 per month.
