In a Brandon, Manitoba high school, a teenager’s trial began with shocking details revealed in court. The 17-year-old, whose identity is protected by the Youth Criminal Justice Act, faced nine charges following a violent attack on June 10, 2025. The incident, which targeted Black and Muslim students, left a 15-year-old with severe injuries.

According to court documents presented by Crown prosecutor Hugh Crawley, the accused meticulously planned the attack, armed with a sword and a knife concealed in a black trench coat and mask. The assault unfolded as he targeted students and staff, inflicting multiple wounds on his victims.

Police swiftly responded to the scene, ending the rampage by subduing the teen with a Taser. In a subsequent interview, the assailant admitted his intentions, citing influences from past violent incidents and extremist ideologies.

Evidence found in the accused’s home, including journals glorifying hate groups and violent acts, shed light on his radicalized mindset. The notebooks also featured disturbing entries outlining mass murder plans and admiration for historical figures associated with white supremacy.

Authorities discovered a significant amount of incriminating content on the teen’s electronic devices, including references to school shootings and racially motivated violence. The prosecution plans to present these findings during the trial, which is set to resume in June 2027.

The accused remains in custody as the legal proceedings continue, highlighting the gravity of the charges and the profound impact of the disturbing events that unfolded at Neelin High School.
