A former TikTok personality involved in a fatal high-speed crash that resulted in the deaths of two individuals has successfully appealed her sentence reduction. Mahek Bukhari, who was 22 at the time of the incident, was initially sentenced to a minimum of 31 years and eight months for two counts of murder. However, her jail term has now been shortened to 26 years and 285 days as the appeal judges recognized her young age at the time of the offense.
Mahek, from Tunstall, Stoke-on-Trent, collaborated with her mother Ansreen Bukhari to orchestrate the deadly crash after facing blackmail threats from one of the victims, Saqib Hussain. The court upheld Ansreen’s 27-year sentence, while Mahek’s sentence was reduced due to her age.
In a statement regarding the ruling, Lord Justice Warby noted that insufficient consideration had been given to Mahek’s immaturity during the crimes. Additionally, the court found the manslaughter sentences for Natasha Akhtar, Ameer Jamal, and Sanaf Gulamustafa to be excessively severe, reducing their jail terms by two years each.
The judge emphasized the high risk of harm posed by the car chase that led to the fatal crash and acknowledged the mitigating factors in the defendants’ roles. The sentences were deemed overly punitive and have been adjusted to reflect a fairer balance of aggravating and mitigating circumstances.
During the trial, it was revealed that the tragic events stemmed from a complicated love affair involving extortion and manipulation. The victims, Mohammed Hashim Ijazuddin and Saqib Hussain, fell victim to a planned ambush orchestrated by Mahek and her accomplices, leading to a fatal collision that claimed their lives.
Mahek and her mother were swiftly apprehended following the crash, with Mahek attempting to mislead authorities about the circumstances leading up to the incident. The trial exposed the disturbing lengths to which the defendants went to carry out their deadly plan, resulting in convictions for murder and manslaughter.
The case highlighted the dark consequences of a love affair turned deadly, shedding light on the devastating impact of manipulation and betrayal. The defendants’ actions were condemned as cold-blooded murder, underscoring the tragic outcome of a once seemingly innocuous relationship that spiraled into a fatal confrontation.
