“Tragic Bus Crash in Hungary Claims 12 Polish Tourists”

A tragic incident occurred in Hungary early Sunday when a passenger bus carrying Polish tourists veered off the road and overturned in a ditch, resulting in the death of 12 individuals and injuries to others. The bus, en route to the town of Mezokeresztes on the eastbound lanes of the M3 motorway, about 140 kilometers east of Budapest, overturned around 1 a.m.

Authorities indicated that the bus driver, believed to have fallen asleep, has been detained. The Hungary National Directorate for Disaster Management reported that the bus, transporting 57 passengers and two drivers, left several passengers trapped beneath it following the overturn.

According to the Polish Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maciej Wewiór, all passengers on the bus held Polish citizenship. The passengers were returning from a pilgrimage in Bosnia-Herzegovina after embarking from the southeastern Podkarpackie region, as stated by the regional government in Rzeszow, Poland.

Hungarian Prime Minister Péter Magyar, in a Facebook post, mentioned that at least 10 individuals sustained severe injuries. He expressed condolences to the victims’ families and appreciated the efforts of the rescue teams deployed to the site. Polish President Karol Nawrocki also conveyed deep sorrow over the tragedy, extending prayers and sympathy to the affected families and loved ones.
