A pet going missing is a nightmare for any animal lover. The distress of not knowing where your furry companion has disappeared to can lead to sleepless nights and a longing for their return. This exact scenario unfolded for Edilson when his dog and best friend, Abner, went missing in 2020.
After months of fruitless searching and outreach to shelters, Edilson gave up hope of ever finding Abner and even decided against getting another pet. However, fate intervened five years later when Instagram unexpectedly reunited Edilson and Abner.
Unbeknownst to Edilson, Abner had been living in a shelter all this time after being rescued from the streets. Due to his mobility and vision issues, the elderly dog had become a permanent resident of the shelter and was symbolically adopted by the project Invisíveis Não Mais (‘Invisible No More’).
This project aims to raise awareness for older, disabled, or injured cats and dogs often overlooked for adoption. Through a series of events, Edilson stumbled upon photos of Abner on Instagram, recognizing his beloved companion instantly.
The heartwarming reunion took place during a group dog walk organized by Invisíveis Não Mais, where Abner approached Edilson, sniffed him, and then showered him with hugs and affection. Project members described it as a beautiful moment that will forever be cherished.
In a touching statement, a volunteer expressed their joy at reuniting Abner with his family, emphasizing the project’s mission to find homes for pets that are often unseen. This heartwarming story serves as a reminder of the importance of microchipping pets to facilitate their safe return if they ever go missing.
