Conor Benn has criticized his rival Chris Eubank Jr for displaying a ‘victim mentality’ following the release of a video showing Eubank Jr being treated in a hospital. The video depicted Eubank Jr, aged 36, lying motionless on a hospital bed surrounded by medical equipment and staff.
The video elicited sympathy from fans, with some suggesting that Eubank Jr should retire, especially after his loss to Benn in a unanimous decision rematch at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Benn, however, questioned the motive behind Eubank Jr’s video, implying that it was a ploy to garner sympathy.
In an interview with the Mail, Benn mentioned hearing about Eubank Jr’s health issues during training and after the fight but remained unconcerned, stating that it was not a severe condition. He emphasized the need to understand the reasons behind such public displays, citing a pattern of seeking sympathy and portraying a victim mentality.
Benn also shared his own experiences of facing challenges in silence, highlighting instances where he struggled during training but chose not to publicize them. He emphasized the tough nature of their sport, likening themselves to modern-day gladiators and stating his aversion to seeking sympathy from the public.
Despite the health issues, Eubank Jr affirmed his intention to continue boxing, expressing gratitude to his supporters and promising a strong comeback once he has fully recovered.
