Minneapolis witnessed another shooting incident involving ICE, causing further distress in the community. The government swiftly attempted to shift blame onto Joe Biden for the situation.
Recent reports disclosed that a man was shot in the leg by an ICE agent in the northern part of Minneapolis shortly after Renee Good, a mother of three, was fatally shot in the head. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) stated that the man tried to evade a targeted traffic stop, resulting in a car crash and a subsequent attempt to escape on foot. According to the government, the ICE agent was attacked by two individuals with a snow shovel and a broom handle, leading to the agent shooting the man in the leg out of fear for his safety.
The DHS, led by Trump ally Kristi Noem, managed to criticize the former President, who is currently undergoing cancer treatment, in an apparent effort to deflect responsibility for the unrest in the city.
In a statement released by the DHS following the shooting, it was mentioned that federal law enforcement officers were conducting a traffic stop on an individual from Venezuela, who was allegedly released into the country by Joe Biden in 2022.
Mentioning Biden’s name in the statement was surprising, and the continuous efforts by Trump to blame the former President, who has been out of politics for a year, have been met with criticism.
Trump supporters within the DHS found ways to divert attention from the actions of ICE in Minneapolis and resorted to making political attacks.
Furthermore, the Democrat governor of Minnesota, Tim Walz, and the Democrat mayor, Jacob Frey, have also faced backlash from the Trump administration following multiple incidents involving federal agents shooting individuals in Minneapolis.
The DHS statement further criticized Governor Walz and Mayor Frey for allegedly inciting resistance against ICE and federal law enforcement officers, calling for an end to what they referred to as hateful rhetoric and resistance against law enforcement personnel.
Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche went as far as labeling the leadership of the governor and mayor as “terrorism,” focusing on the two Democrat leaders rather than addressing the actions of ICE agents. This rhetoric emphasized the need to stop what was described as terrorism by any means necessary.
Mayor Frey stood up against intimidation from the federal government and condemned ICE, accusing the agency of causing chaos in Minnesota. The increasing presence of ICE agents in the city, with an additional 3,000 officers sent by the Trump administration in recent weeks, has raised concerns among locals.
Protests erupted after the tragic death of Renee Good, with accusations from Trump and his supporters branding her as a “domestic terrorist.” However, bodycam footage released later raised doubts about the claims made by some individuals.
Following the recent shooting incident, protests intensified, leading to federal agents using tear gas and pepper balls against protesting locals. The aggressive response to protesters and the attempts to shift blame onto Joe Biden highlight the politicization of a tragic event and ongoing turmoil in the city by Trump and his allies.
