“Worker Trapped under Debris Rescued at Rome Tower”

Published:

A worker was rescued after being trapped under debris at a historic tower in Rome. The incident occurred during renovation work on the Torre dei Conti near the Colosseum, resulting in the worker’s entrapment. Emergency responders carefully extricated the worker using an aerial ladder and a stretcher, transferring him to an ambulance. His condition was uncertain, but officials confirmed his consciousness.

Rescue efforts faced challenges as debris continued to hinder progress. Initially, rescuers attempted access through a window, but further structural collapse forced them to change tactics. With the use of a drone and a crane, firefighters diligently worked to clear rubble and free the worker throughout the night.

The tower, dating back to the 13th century, has been undergoing extensive restoration work. Prior safety assessments had deemed the building stable for the restoration project, including necessary asbestos removal. However, the recent incident prompted investigations into potential negligence charges related to the accident.

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni expressed concern for the worker’s well-being and commended the efforts of emergency responders. The community and officials remained hopeful for a positive outcome amidst the challenging rescue operation.
