UK households relying on Freeview for television content are advised to check and potentially retune their equipment due to recent channel adjustments. Freeview has confirmed several channel modifications, including name changes and channel relocations within the TV guide. While not a significant overhaul, performing a quick retune will ensure that TVs are fully updated.
Freeview has officially announced, “On May 20, 2026, some broadcasters will be implementing changes to their channels. Viewers are required to retune their TVs to keep their channels and TV Guide current.”
Notable changes include the renaming of two channels: Hobbycraft TV on channel 97 is now named Shop Unlimited, and Great! Romance Mix on channel 61 has been replaced by Great! TV +1. Additionally, there have been adjustments to channel numbers, with Great! Movies moving from channel 61 to channel 62 and Great! TV +1 relocating to channel 61.
In response to the updates, Freeview stated, “Channels on Freeview are continuously evolving as individual providers decide to move, add, or remove channels. Freeview remains committed to offering audiences a diverse and engaging content selection.”
If the updates are not automatically reflected on your TV, manual retuning may be necessary. To retune your TV, follow these steps:
– Press the menu button on your TV or set-top box remote.
– Select “set-up,” “installation,” “update,” or a similar option.
– If prompted for a password, try “1234” or “0000.”
– Choose “first-time installation,” “factory reset,” “full retune,” or “default settings.”
– Confirm the deletion of existing channels if prompted by pressing “OK.”
– The retune process should initiate automatically.
– Save any channels found during the scan if prompted.
