Professional golfer Rory McIlroy has confirmed that he has no intention of switching from golf to boxing due to his aversion to being punched in the face professionally. The statement was made following his recent win of the BBC Sports Personality of the Year Award, where he attended the Anthony Joshua versus Jake Paul fight.
When asked by the BBC if he would consider pursuing a boxing career like Jake Paul, McIlroy firmly rejected the idea, expressing his contentment with playing golf as his profession and his reluctance to endure physical blows for a living.
Before the fight, McIlroy, a self-proclaimed boxing enthusiast, predicted that Joshua would secure a victory over Paul by knockout before the sixth round, citing Joshua’s advantages in reach, height, and experience.
Following the award ceremony, McIlroy swiftly returned to the United States, leaving his trophy behind, and mentioned his wife, Erica Stoll, and daughter, Poppy, in his acceptance speech, thanking them for their support and acknowledging the significance of the award in his successful year.
McIlroy, who resides with his family in Jupiter Island, Florida, highlighted the importance of family and public support in his achievements, expressing gratitude for being named the BBC Sports Personality of the Year and looking forward to potential future challenges.
