A woman accused of stalking Madeleine McCann’s parents has claimed that Kate McCann withheld information from the police. Julia Wandelt, 24, who is on trial for pretending to be Madeleine McCann, became emotional during her testimony at Leicester Crown Court, insisting she did nothing wrong and should not be testifying.
Wandelt, a Polish national, allegedly harassed the McCanns with emails, calls, voicemails, and visits to their home. She accused Kate McCann of concealing their interactions from the court, questioning why certain details were not disclosed. Wandelt also suggested that the McCanns ignored her because they were possibly threatened or restricted from responding.
During her testimony, Wandelt admitted sending a message to Kate McCann in a moment of emotional distress, calling her “corrupted” and implying they were not actively searching for Madeleine. She expressed regret for her words, attributing them to feeling neglected and pushed away for an extended period.
Wandelt further claimed that a friend offered her money for a DNA test, which she intended to use for legal action in family court. Both Wandelt and her co-defendant, Karen Spragg, deny the charge of stalking. The trial is ongoing.
