At the latest Corgi Race Vilnius event in Lithuania, 150 corgis from nine countries partook in various competitions beyond just speed racing. The event featured a costume parade, a “smartest nose” challenge, and a loudest bark contest, attracting participants from Lithuania, Latvia, Poland, Estonia, Germany, Ukraine, Czech Republic, the United States, and Britain, the breed’s homeland.
The organizer, Edvinas Miskas, noted the significant growth of the event since its inception, with this year’s gathering marking the largest yet. Notably, the competition welcomed its first participant from Wales, the birthplace of the corgi breed, emphasizing Vilnius as the “European capital of corgis.”
The main running event witnessed 94 corgis competing in qualifiers, semifinals, and the final race, where American corgi GG emerged victorious over a 25-meter course, with Mr. Corgington from the U.S. finishing a close second and Lithuania’s Moka securing third place.
Apart from speed races, participants showcased their creativity in a costume parade, with standout outfits including a dinosaur suit and doggy sports gear. Additionally, corgis demonstrated their intelligence in the “smartest nose” challenge, where Latvian corgis Tora and Rusty shared the victory in finding hidden treats.
The event also featured a loudest bark competition, won by Mr. Corgington. Notable participants included 12-year-old Pembroke Welsh corgi Duke from England, who, despite not racing due to age, impressed in the barking contest.
Overall, the Corgi Race Vilnius event celebrated the diverse talents of corgis and their owners, with half of this year’s participants being first-timers and six veteran corgis having attended every edition, adding to the event’s charm and success.
