“Global Soccer Fans Demand FIFA President’s Resignation”

Published:

A coalition of soccer fan associations worldwide has initiated a petition demanding the resignation of FIFA President Gianni Infantino following his attempt to sell future World Cup earnings to private investors. The petition, tagged as InfantinOut, also urges for a reconstruction of FIFA to prevent similar incidents in the future.

The petition strongly condemns Infantino’s proposal to commercialize the World Cup, labeling it as a disgraceful act that betrays the essence of football. Despite the swift withdrawal of the plan in response to widespread condemnation, the petition emphasizes the lasting impact of the incident on the sport.

Notable fan groups supporting the petition include Football Supporters Europe, Football Supporters Africa, the Independent Supporters Council in North America, and approximately 40 national fan organizations globally. Despite mounting pressure from various soccer bodies, including UEFA, CONCACAF, and the Asian Football Confederation, Infantino has so far refused to step down.

The petition criticizes Infantino for his leadership failures, lack of transparency, and controversial decisions, such as endorsing the European Super League and advocating for biennial World Cups. It underscores the urgent need for Infantino’s resignation to restore FIFA’s credibility and safeguard the future of the sport.
