BT Broadband customers in the UK are in for a pleasant surprise as BT Mobile is set to re-enter the market after pausing new customer sign-ups in 2023. The company had previously focused on its EE network brand but is now shifting gears to reintroduce BT-branded SIM deals to existing broadband customers.
The exact details of the offerings are yet to be disclosed, but this move signifies BT’s commitment to revitalizing its well-established brand presence, especially after EE took the spotlight as the primary consumer focus in recent years. CEO Allison Kirkby, who assumed leadership in 2024, is determined to re-establish BT’s prominence among UK households to prevent the brand from fading into obscurity.
Kirkby emphasized the importance of further investing in BT’s brands, products, and services following significant network investments. This reintroduction will position BT in direct competition with major providers like Vodafone and O2, as well as budget-friendly networks such as Giffgaff, Tesco Mobile, and SMARTY.
While pricing details are pending, BT plans to offer bundled services including broadband, landline, and mobile SIM under a single package with a monthly consolidated bill. Industry analyst Paolo Pescatore views this move as a strategic effort to stay relevant in a highly competitive telecom market where connectivity involves more than just coverage but also resilience, scale, and trust.
BT also announced its partnership as the official telecoms provider for the UEFA Euro 2028 tournament hosted across Britain and Ireland. Pescatore highlighted the significance of this partnership as a means for BT to reconnect with users, households, and businesses, leveraging sports as a unifying platform to showcase its scale, relevance, and service delivery capabilities.
