Statistics Canada has reported that a significant number of drivers crossed the Gordie Howe International Bridge into Canada during the initial days following its opening. The highly anticipated bridge, linking Windsor and Detroit, commenced operations on July 27 after experiencing several weeks of delays.
According to preliminary data from StatCan, there were 18,900 return trips by Canadian residents from the United States via the Gordie Howe bridge within the first five days of its operation. Similarly, 18,100 U.S. residents entered Canada by crossing the same bridge during the same timeframe.
In comparison, the Ambassador Bridge and the Windsor-Detroit Tunnel, other key border crossings in the region, recorded a total of 52,700 inbound trips by both Canadian and U.S. residents over the same period.
Moreover, StatCan noted that 4,100 commercial transport trucks traveled to Canada using the Gordie Howe bridge in the final five days of July.
