Search and rescue authorities have located an aircraft in the Kawartha Lakes area where a pilot was reported missing after a recent flight. The Trenton Joint Rescue Coordination Centre (JRCC), responsible for coordinating search and rescue missions in Ontario, announced the discovery of the plane at Wolf Lake in Queen Elizabeth II Provincial Park, situated approximately a 45-minute drive north of the Kawartha Lakes region.
The case has now been handed over to the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) as a missing person investigation, as confirmed by the JRCC. While the pilot has been identified by police as David, the authorities did not explicitly state whether the found aircraft belonged to the 73-year-old individual.
According to details shared by Durham police on Saturday, David departed from Oshawa Airport in the plane around 8:30 a.m. on Friday with an expected return time of 9:30 a.m. It was noted that his usual flight path encompasses the area south of the Kawartha Lakes township and north of Lake Scugog.
Previously, Ontario Provincial Police described the aircraft as a small homemade plane painted in blue with the tail marked with the letters “FOFZ.” David, characterized as an experienced pilot standing at five feet seven inches tall with a slender physique, features black grey hair and a moustache.
Durham Regional Police provided an image of the missing plane as part of their efforts in the search and rescue mission.
