“PM Mark Carney to Rally Support for Forever Canadian Movement”

Published:

Prime Minister Mark Carney has confirmed his participation in two upcoming Forever Canadian rallies in Alberta before the Oct. 19 referendum. Carney is scheduled to attend events in Calgary on Thursday and Edmonton on Friday. The referendum will feature 10 questions covering topics such as immigration, constitutional matters, and whether Alberta should remain in Canada or proceed with a binding separation referendum.

Thomas Lukaszuk, the initiator of the Forever Canadian movement, publicly invited Carney to these rallies, expressing optimism about Carney’s engagement with the cause. Lukaszuk emphasized the importance of hearing from Carney, stating that his presence signifies support for the movement and federal unity in Alberta.

Lukaszuk commended Carney for acknowledging and addressing the concerns of Albertans, highlighting the significance of collaboration and negotiation in effective federalism. He stressed that separatism is not a viable solution for the issues raised by Albertans. Carney recently delivered a Thanksgiving message to Albertans from his former school, emphasizing the value of Canada and the importance of unity amidst economic challenges.

Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre is also expected to speak on Canadian unity in a separate event in Calgary, alongside Alberta Premier Danielle Smith. In response to Carney’s decision to attend the rallies, a spokesperson from Smith’s office expressed positivity, stating that it is encouraging to see the prime minister engaging with Albertans before the referendum vote. The government encourages Albertans to vote in favor of a strong Alberta within a united Canada.
