Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson are reportedly seeking two homes as they negotiate their departure from the Royal Lodge. The discussions come in light of the controversy surrounding the minimal rent Prince Andrew currently pays for the 30-room Royal Lodge in Windsor.
Prince Andrew, aged 65, is in talks with aides of the King but is hesitant to leave his residence of over two decades. The main points of contention are believed to be the location of his new home and compensation for the funds he has invested in renovating the lodge.
During the exit discussions with the Palace, Prince Andrew has expressed interest in acquiring Frogmore Cottage, the former residence of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. Meanwhile, Sarah Ferguson, his ex-wife with whom he currently resides at the mansion, is eyeing Adelaide Cottage once it becomes vacant next month.
According to a friend of the couple as reported by The Sun, the arrangements are still uncertain. Frogmore Cottage may not accommodate both of them, but Adelaide Cottage’s proximity will enable them to stay in touch easily. Both properties offer ample space for their daughters Eugenie and Beatrice to visit with their families.
News outlets have reached out to Buckingham Palace and Prince Andrew’s representatives for comments on the matter.
Reports suggest that Prince William is insisting on Prince Andrew vacating the Royal Lodge by Bonfire Night. As Prince William and Princess Kate prepare to move to Forest Lodge nearby, sources claim that William wants Prince Andrew out of the 30-room residence before their arrival.
MPs are set to debate Prince Andrew’s conduct, his mansion, and the potential stripping of his dukedom. The issue may soon be raised in the House of Commons on a day when ministers do not control the parliamentary timetable.
While Prince Andrew relinquished his Duke of York title recently, only a parliamentary law can formally revoke it.
