“Starmer Denounces Attacks on Cabinet Members”

Published:

Keir Starmer has strongly condemned any form of attack on his Cabinet members, emphasizing that such behavior is entirely unacceptable. His statement comes in response to recent incidents of leadership plotting briefings targeting Wes Streeting.

This marks the first public remarks by the Prime Minister following the emergence of a heated briefing conflict within the government. Starmer also commended the Health Secretary for his commendable work, asserting that he is performing excellently. Streeting, on the other hand, denied allegations of orchestrating a coup against Starmer, amid growing speculations about the Prime Minister’s future.

During the PMQs session, Starmer acknowledged the Health Secretary’s efforts in reducing NHS waiting lists, despite facing ridicule from the opposing benches as he stressed the unity within his Cabinet. He reaffirmed his team’s dedication to serving the country under the leadership of Morgan McSweeney, his chief-of-staff.

In response to Tory leader Kemi Badenoch’s inquiry about the reported “toxic culture in Downing Street,” Starmer reiterated his commitment to rebuilding the nation. He unequivocally stated that any assault on his Cabinet members would not be tolerated.

Starmer praised Streeting for surpassing expectations by delivering five million additional appointments in the first year of a Labour government, exceeding the initial pledge of two million.

Streeting defended himself against leadership challenge allegations, labeling them as counterproductive and unhelpful. He likened the internal strife to a celebrity-based show, expressing full support for the Prime Minister.

In a statement to Sky News, Streeting criticized the briefing as untruthful and detrimental, likening it to a TV drama. He underscored the importance of supporting the Prime Minister during such turbulent times.
