Provincial authorities have reported the discovery of a third set of human remains on a property near Smiths Falls in eastern Ontario. The identified individual is Lawrence Bertrim, last seen in downtown Smiths Falls in September 2022. The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are investigating the cause of death, with no charges filed yet. A reward of $50,000 remains available for information leading to a conviction. Bertrim, who disappeared at the age of 42, has been a significant focus for his family and the investigative team. Detective Inspector Jennifer Patton emphasized the importance of the discovery and urged patience as the investigation progresses.
Lawrence Bertrim’s remains were found on the same property where another missing man, Robert Lambert, was discovered in July. While no charges have been laid in Lambert’s case, police suspect foul play. The property also yielded the remains of Robbie Thomson in October 2025, leading to charges against four individuals, including three for first-degree murder in connection with Thomson’s death.
Bertrim and Thomson were acquainted, as reported by CBC News in 2023. The two individuals were also connected to Steven Tate, whose body was found in a ditch along Highway 15 in November 2023. These incidents have deeply impacted the Smiths Falls community and the surrounding areas.
