“Tragic Drowning Incident in Malta: UK Man Missing, Boy Dies”

Published:

A man from the UK is currently missing after a tragic incident where an 11-year-old boy lost his life while swimming in Malta. The emergency response teams, including the police and Civil Protection Department, launched an extensive search operation at Ramla Bay following the incident on Monday afternoon. Despite efforts to rescue the boy and transport him to the hospital, he unfortunately passed away upon arrival.

The circumstances leading to the incident remain unclear, with uncertainties about whether the man and the boy were swimming together when they encountered difficulties. Authorities had issued warnings about strong winds affecting Malta earlier that week. Since the beginning of 2025, a total of 16 individuals have drowned in the country.

The search for the missing man, whose identity has not been disclosed, resumed the following morning. Magistrate Brigitte Sultana has initiated an inquiry into the recent events, as reported by local sources.

Notably, just recently, another British tourist drowned at a popular attraction in Malta after using a slide from a pleasure boat into the sea. The 43-year-old man entered the waters at the Blue Lagoon in Comino, where bystanders noticed him submerged and brought him to the surface for CPR attempts, unfortunately leading to his death in the hospital.

Following the tragedy, Magistrate Brigitte Sultana opened an inquiry, and volunteer first-aiders from Malta’s Emergency Response and Rescue Corps quickly responded to the scene to provide assistance.

Tragically, incidents of drowning in Malta have been on the rise. In past months, several individuals have lost their lives due to water-related accidents, including a 35-year-old Italian man in August and a 71-year-old fisherman in April.

One particularly devastating incident involved a Spanish tourist who suffered a fatal injury after being struck by a propeller while boarding a boat in Comino, ultimately succumbing to her injuries.

Despite being a major tourist destination, safety concerns have surrounded the Blue Lagoon in Malta, particularly regarding the protection of natural ecosystems. The attraction assures visitors of safety measures, including lifeguards on duty and designated swimming areas for enhanced security from May to October.
