Vinicius Junior has publicly expressed regret to Real Madrid supporters for his emotional reaction following his substitution in the recent El Clasico match against Barcelona. The Brazilian forward’s outburst marred Real Madrid’s 2-1 victory on Sunday.
During the critical moment in the 73rd minute, Xabi Alonso made the decision to replace Vinicius with Rodrygo. Vinicius, visibly upset, left the field while expressing his frustration towards his manager, stating, “Always me! I’m leaving the team! It’s better if I leave, I’m leaving.”
Following the incident where no handshake occurred between the two, Vinicius, aged 25, publicly apologized for his behavior. He acknowledged his passion for winning and pledged to continue giving his best for Real Madrid.
In a statement posted on social media, the Brazilian international conveyed his remorse to the Madridistas, teammates, club, and president. Vinicius emphasized his competitive spirit driven by love for the club and its values, vowing to maintain his dedication to Real Madrid.
Notably, Vinicius’ post did not mention Alonso, who later commented that different personalities exist in any team and indicated a future conversation about the incident.
Vinicius later returned to the match against Barcelona, where he received a booking during a late altercation between players from both sides. Despite the on-field tensions, Vinicius attributed the intense nature of El Clasico to the competitive spirit of the game.
Reports suggest a strained relationship between Vinicius and Alonso. The forward has contributed significantly to Real Madrid this season, scoring five goals and providing four assists in 13 appearances under Alonso’s management.
Real Madrid currently leads La Liga by five points and remains undefeated in the Champions League. Their next match is against Valencia on Saturday.
