Toronto Blue Jays’ star player, Vladimir Guerrero Jr., has been cleared to return to action after his stint on the seven-day injured list. He is set to play against the New York Yankees on Saturday. Guerrero sustained an injury during a game against the Yankees last week due to a collision with George Lombard Jr., a rookie shortstop from New York. The incident occurred at third base in the sixth inning, resulting in Guerrero’s helmet coming off after Lombard’s knee and thigh made contact with his head. Despite the injury, Guerrero managed to score before leaving the game.
Following his recovery, Guerrero successfully passed his concussion tests and participated in batting practice after featuring in a minor league rehab game for single-A Dunedin. He returned to the team on Friday and was placed second in the batting lineup for Saturday’s game against the Yankees, following the Blue Jays’ 3-1 loss in the series opener on Friday. To make room for Guerrero’s return, the Blue Jays opted to send Davis Schneider, an infielder/outfielder, to triple-A Buffalo.
Guerrero holds a batting average of .263 with seven home runs and 46 RBIs. Prior to the injury, he had been performing well with a .310 batting average in his last seven games.
