Tiger Woods recently announced a hiatus from golf following a recent back surgery. This operation marks Woods’ seventh procedure on his back and the third major surgery in the past two years, following previous interventions on his Achilles and ankle.
Despite his illustrious career that began nearly thirty years ago, Woods has struggled with injuries in recent times. While he clinched the Masters title in 2019 after an 11-year Major drought, his subsequent performances have been hampered by physical setbacks.
Although Woods managed to attend his annual Hero World Challenge golf tournament in the Bahamas, he acknowledges that a return to competitive play is still a distant prospect. Reflecting on his recovery process, he humorously mentioned playing numerous events but then emphasized the importance of focusing on rehab and gradually working back to full fitness before considering his tournament schedule.
Recently cleared to resume chipping and putting activities, Woods highlighted the slow but steady progress in his rehabilitation post the disc replacement surgery. Looking ahead, he aims to intensify his gym workouts to enhance strength and rotational capabilities critical for his comeback.
A significant motivation for Woods is the opportunity to break the PGA tournament wins record, currently tied with golf icon Sam Snead at 82 victories. Notah Begay III, a close friend of Woods, pointed out that walking the course remains a significant challenge post-surgeries, indicating a potential hurdle in his return to top-level competition.
