“Woman Sentenced for Husband Murder Plot”

Published:

A woman who was unfaithful to her husband is facing imprisonment for planning his murder to collect a £124,000 life insurance payout. Michelle Mills collaborated with Geraint Berry, her extramarital partner, to orchestrate the killing of Christopher Mills. Over the course of a three-month affair, Mills, aged 46, deliberated various methods to carry out the murder, including suffocation with a pillow, poisoning with foxgloves in his food, and adding antifreeze to his meal.

The planned attack took place in a caravan at a holiday park in Cenarth, Carmarthenshire, where two masked assailants armed with imitation firearms attempted to harm Mr. Mills. Despite the threat, Mr. Mills successfully disarmed and fought off the intruders, who subsequently fled the scene, as disclosed in court proceedings.

Following a thorough investigation, authorities arrested Mills, Berry, and a third suspect, Steven Thomas, on suspicions of conspiracy to commit murder. While Thomas, also a former serviceman, was acquitted by the jury, Mills and Berry, both aged 46, were convicted of the crime. Their sentencing is scheduled for December 19 at Swansea Crown Court.

Detective Inspector Sam Gregory of Dyfed-Powys Police expressed satisfaction with the guilty verdicts, emphasizing the severity of the conspiracy to end a person’s life and the potentially fatal consequences of the planned attack. He highlighted that Mills and Berry devised three separate attempts on Mr. Mills’ life and commended the investigative team for securing the convictions, extending gratitude to Mr. Mills for his cooperation throughout the legal process.

During the trial, it emerged that the duo devised the sinister plan shortly after Mr. Mills’ £124,000 Help For Heroes insurance policy became active. Berry, a former Royal Marine, initiated the affair with Mills in the summer of 2024, culminating in the attempted attack in late September of that year.

Text messages presented as evidence revealed Mills and Berry’s affection for each other and their aspirations to be together. Despite their denials, Mills and Berry faced charges of conspiracy to commit murder, while Mills also faced an additional charge of attempting to obstruct the course of justice concerning her statements to the police following the caravan incident. Berry and Thomas had previously admitted guilt to possessing an imitation firearm with intent to instill fear.
