“Unlocking Lost Pensions: How One Man Found £10k”

Keeping track of your pensions can become challenging, especially if you have switched jobs frequently.

Recent research conducted in 2024 by the Pensions Policy Institute (PPI) reveals that around £31.1 billion is currently unclaimed or lost in pension funds.

Despite this, locating your misplaced retirement funds is not an insurmountable task. One individual is urging others to seek out their pensions after he uncovered £10,000 in missing pots.

John Ferguson, a 32-year-old security professional residing in Edinburgh, utilized the Penny app to discover seven pension pots, including two previously unknown to him.

Ferguson suspects there may be two or three additional pensions awaiting discovery. He shared with the Mirror: “Penny was incredibly user-friendly. Minimal information is required for them to assist you.

“One of the pensions… I completely forgot about from my time at a previous employer when I was around 18. When I input past employers into the Penny app, one notification revealed a pension I had long forgotten about.

“Without using the Penny app, I might never have come across that pension. The other pension remains a mystery to me even now.

“I did not include this pension provider or employer in my search, yet I received a notification stating that I potentially have a pension with them.”
