“Teen darts prodigy Luke Littler targets more wins after £1m triumph”

Published:

Luke Littler, an 18-year-old darts player, has the chance to recoup some of his £1 million prize money from winning the PDC World Darts Championship. He secured his second consecutive world title by defeating Gian van Veen at Alexandra Palace. Littler’s remarkable 7-1 victory over the Dutchman showcased his dominance in the tournament, where he reached the final for the third year in a row. The young player made history by being the first to claim the £1 million prize, which was a substantial increase from the previous year’s winnings.

Despite his success, Littler faces a significant tax bill due to UK tax laws. Nearly half of his prize money will be deducted for income tax, amounting to around £450,000. Additional National Insurance contributions will push his total tax liability to approximately £470,000. Nevertheless, Littler has a lucrative opportunity ahead as he gears up to participate in the Bahrain Darts Masters starting on January 15.

In a previous event in 2024, Littler defeated Michael van Gerwen to win £30,000 at the Bahrain Masters, marking his World Series debut. He will return to the tournament as a 10-time PDC major title winner. Looking ahead, Littler expressed his determination to win the upcoming competitions in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia, aiming to make a mark in the sport.

With plans to dominate the darts world, Littler emphasized his ambition to win every tournament he competes in. He acknowledged the significance of retaining his world title and expressed his desire to continue achieving success in the sport. Sky has also announced a discounted TV and Sky Sports bundle for the upcoming season, offering an extensive coverage of live matches across various leagues, including the Premier League.
