The Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) has responded to recent comments made by darts player Nathan Aspinall regarding the crowd at the Saudi Arabia Darts Masters. Aspinall had expressed his opinion that not all attendees were present voluntarily during the tournament.
The competition kicked off with notable players such as Luke Littler, Michael van Gerwen, and Luke Humphries participating. Aspinall, another prominent player, also competed in the event.
Following his victory over Lourence Ilagan, Aspinall shared his thoughts on the event’s ambiance, mentioning that there is room for improvement. He noted that the crowd seemed somewhat subdued and hinted that not all spectators may have been there willingly. Despite the modest venue size, he acknowledged the importance of starting somewhere in establishing darts events.
In response to Aspinall’s remarks, the PDC clarified that all individuals present were enthusiastic spectators. The PDC stated that it was the first darts event of its kind in the region, attracting many first-time live darts viewers, which may have contributed to a different atmosphere compared to established darts events in the UK and Europe.
Apart from Aspinall’s observations, current world champion Luke Littler also commented on the event’s atmosphere, noting that it was quieter than what he was accustomed to. Despite the subdued environment, Littler managed to secure a win and expressed his readiness for future matches.
