Aldi has announced its intention to launch 40 new stores in the UK this year, with an investment of £370 million. The expansion plans include locations such as Southam in Warwickshire, Hastings in East Sussex, and Amersham in Buckinghamshire. This initiative is part of Aldi’s broader strategy to reach 1,500 stores in the UK, with a total investment of £1.6 billion over two years.
In 2025, Aldi opened new stores in various areas including Kirkintilloch in East Dunbartonshire, Eastbourne in East Sussex, Fulham Broadway in London, and Deeside in Wales. Giles Hurley, the CEO of Aldi UK and Ireland, emphasized the company’s commitment to providing high-quality, affordable groceries to all customers. He stated that the expansion plans for 2026 aim to address areas currently without an Aldi store, aligning with the long-term goal of reaching 1,500 stores.
Aldi was recently recognized as the UK’s most cost-effective supermarket by Which? for the fifth consecutive year. The supermarket also topped The Grocer’s ‘Super Grocer 33’ survey for the seventh time, showcasing its value for British shoppers. Additionally, Aldi announced an increase in pay rates for store colleagues, with hourly rates set to rise nationally and within the M25 area from March 1, 2026.
In 2025, Aldi was consistently rated as the cheapest supermarket, outperforming its competitors for most months of the year. The average monthly price difference between Aldi and Lidl was marginal, with Aldi holding the top spot in December for a list of 68 items. Compared to other major supermarkets like Asda and Tesco, Aldi maintained its reputation for offering the best value to customers.
