A senior woman, aged 71, endured a brutal attack at the hands of Jason Dyer, who she considered a stepson. The incident left her with severe fractures in her face and ribs. Nottingham Crown Court heard that Dyer callously laughed at her as she sat in her armchair, covered in blood. When the police arrived, he nonchalantly admitted to the assault.
Judge Michael Auty KC, in delivering a rare life sentence to Dyer, emphasized the victim’s vulnerability and the severity of the attack. The woman, traumatized by the assault, expressed her ongoing fear and struggle to cope but vowed not to be defeated by the incident.
The assault occurred at the victim’s home in Nottinghamshire last year, with Dyer unexpectedly launching a violent attack on her. Despite the victim’s pleas for help during the assault, it wasn’t until her daughter intervened that emergency services were contacted.
The victim suffered multiple fractures and injuries as a result of the attack, requiring a lengthy hospital stay for recovery. Dyer, a repeat offender with a history of convictions, pleaded guilty to causing grievous bodily harm with intent.
Judge Auty expressed deep concern over Dyer’s behavior and deemed him a significant risk to society based on his pre-sentence report. The Parole Board will determine Dyer’s release, ensuring public safety is the top priority.
