An Israeli professor at City University in London, Michael Ben-Gad, reported that a group of masked individuals disrupted his lecture, allegedly threatening to harm him. Ben-Gad, who served in the Israel Defense Forces from 1982 to 1985, claimed that he has been targeted by students on campus, facing accusations of being a terrorist. During one of his recent lectures, masked individuals confronted him, labeling him a “war criminal and a Nazi.”
Speaking to Sky News, Ben-Gad described the incident as protesters invading his lecture, verbally attacking him and making threats. He expressed concern about leaflets circulating on campus branding him a “terrorist,” particularly emphasizing the vulnerability of Jewish students facing similar targeting nationwide.
Despite the challenges he has faced, Ben-Gad commended the university for its support and mentioned the offer of paid leave, although he chose to continue his duties. However, City Action for Palestine initiated a petition calling for his immediate removal from his position, urging City University to address such issues in future hiring processes.
In response to the situation, a statement signed by professors and tutors from various UK institutions condemned the targeted harassment against Ben-Gad, emphasizing the importance of respecting freedom of expression and condemning efforts to intimidate lecturers based on their nationality, religion, or other affiliations.
City St George’s University underscored its commitment to freedom of expression within legal boundaries while denouncing any unlawful interference with academic activities. The university vowed to protect its staff and students, including Ben-Gad, against harassment. The Mirror has sought comments from City St George’s regarding the matter.
