A close family friend of the woman and two young girls who tragically lost their lives in a recent collision near Foam Lake, Saskatchewan, described Amber Olson as a dedicated mother to her two lively daughters. According to Cassandra Pendlebury, the girls, Isla and Everly, aged eight and five, were Amber’s whole world.
The fatal incident occurred when a truck attempted to overtake a semi-truck and crashed into the SUV carrying the family about nine kilometers west of Foam Lake. Pendlebury praised Amber’s kind-hearted nature, mentioning that she was always willing to help those in need.
Halloween and Christmas were particularly special times for the family, with their homes being a hub of activity for the kids. Shaun Didychuk, the girls’ father, also sustained severe injuries in the crash and was airlifted to the hospital for treatment.
Following the heartbreaking loss, a GoFundMe campaign was initiated by Pendlebury to assist Shaun with medical expenses and funeral arrangements. The fundraising page emphasized the family’s tragic ordeal and the need to alleviate any financial burdens during such a difficult time.
Meanwhile, the driver of the truck, Kelly Knopf, a 40-year-old individual from Sumter, South Carolina, and his passengers were also injured in the collision. Knopf was subsequently charged with multiple counts related to the incident and is currently awaiting further legal proceedings.
Knopf’s lawyer shared a statement on his behalf, asserting that there was no evidence of alcohol, drugs, or excessive speed contributing to the crash. Knopf, who had traveled to Saskatchewan for a hunting trip, expressed gratitude for the support received from the community in the aftermath of the tragedy.
The lawyer indicated plans to address Knopf’s potential release later in the week. The community of Foam Lake continues to mourn the loss of the family members and awaits developments in the ongoing investigation and legal proceedings surrounding the incident.
