Max Verstappen clinched victory at the Singapore Grand Prix after a strong start and controlled the race to secure his second consecutive Formula 1 win. Despite his initial concerns about poor starts, Verstappen managed to hold off Charles Leclerc at the first corner after starting from pole position.
This triumph marked Verstappen’s back-to-back wins following his recent success in Malaysia and a sprint race victory on Saturday. The victory in Singapore was particularly significant for Verstappen as it was his first career Grand Prix win in the city-state after ten attempts.
Acknowledging the significance of his win, Verstappen described his start as “just good enough.” A broken radio added some drama to the race as Red Bull struggled to communicate with their driver.
Further back in the field, Kimi Antonelli made impressive moves to overtake Lando Norris and Lewis Hamilton, securing a podium finish and strengthening his championship lead. With George Russell also making a remarkable recovery from the back of the grid to ninth place, Antonelli now stands on the brink of potentially becoming the youngest-ever Formula 1 champion at the upcoming United States Grand Prix.
Luck seemed to favor Antonelli once again, with Mercedes driver Russell facing challenges throughout the race. As Hamilton and Norris encountered difficulties, Antonelli capitalized on their mistakes to secure a strong finish. Despite his engine issues from the previous race, Russell displayed resilience as he fought his way through the field after a challenging start.
In the final standings, Norris finished fourth, with his teammate Oscar Piastri claiming fifth ahead of a struggling Hamilton. Liam Lawson secured seventh place for Racing Bulls, followed by Nico Hulkenberg in eighth, Russell in ninth, and Verstappen’s teammate Isack Hadjar completing the top ten.
