British Airways has announced an exciting update for its passengers regarding onboard Wi-Fi services. The airline will soon provide complimentary high-speed Wi-Fi suitable for video streaming following a partnership between its parent company and Elon Musk’s Starlink.
Starting next year, British Airways will introduce this advanced technology as part of a significant £7 billion transformation effort. The International Airlines Group, British Airways’ parent company, has inked a deal with Starlink to equip over 500 aircraft in its fleet with internet access.
Starlink, a satellite-based network owned by Elon Musk’s SpaceX, will power this enhanced connectivity service. Passengers will enjoy complimentary Wi-Fi access in all cabins without the need for a separate login, a significant upgrade from the limited Wi-Fi currently available on most British Airways flights.
This upgraded service will offer various options, from free text messaging for loyalty program members to packages allowing passengers to stream music, videos, and movies for prices ranging from £4.99 to £21.99 based on the duration.
British Airways’ Chief Executive, Sean Doyle, emphasized the airline’s commitment to enhancing customer experience through the introduction of Starlink. The seamless connectivity from gate to gate will set British Airways apart from competitors, especially on short-haul flights. Passengers can expect lightning-fast, low-lag internet connectivity throughout their journey, even over remote regions and oceans.
The partnership with Starlink coincides with British Airways’ recent announcement of a new transatlantic flight route connecting London Heathrow to St Louis, Missouri. The airline plans to commence these flights on April 19, 2026, operating four times a week during the summer months.
Neil Chernoff, British Airways’ Chief Planning and Strategy Officer, expressed enthusiasm for the new route, highlighting St Louis as an attractive destination with a rich history and vibrant cultural scene. This direct service from the UK to St Louis will offer customers exciting travel opportunities and strengthen ties between the UK and the US Midwest.
With the addition of St Louis, British Airways will serve 27 American cities, solidifying its position as the only UK airline offering direct flights to St Louis.
