Marks and Spencer has announced the closure of 11 cafes across the country as part of a significant reorganization affecting over 300 of its food outlets. The impacted locations include stores in Anlaby, Hull, and Martlesham Heath, Ipswich.
A spokesperson stated that the company is modernizing its food business to provide a wider range of products to customers. This includes the introduction of new coffee shops serving high-quality food and fairtrade coffee, such as the one at the newly opened Bristol Cabot Circus store.
As part of the transformation, 11 small food stores will repurpose their cafe spaces to cater to the demand for a broader selection of M&S Food. This change affects a small portion of the total cafes, coffee shops, and coffee-to-go locations within the M&S network.
Following the recent closure of the Wolverhampton branch, M&S continues its transformation strategy by planning to open six new food stores before Christmas, creating 200 new job opportunities. The retailer has also launched a new market-style Foodhall in Covent Garden, Southampton Street, and reimagined Foodhalls in Temple Fortune and Wimbledon.
In November, two additional Foodhalls will open in South London at Clapham Common and Fulham Broadway. This expansion aligns with M&S’s commitment to enhancing its food offerings and store experiences for customers.
