Sir AP McCoy has given his opinion on the future plans for Constitution Hill, a promising jumps horse. The 2023 Champion Hurdle victor had a flawless record of ten consecutive wins before encountering difficulties at the Cheltenham Festival in March.
Despite being the favorite, Constitution Hill suffered setbacks, first falling at the Cheltenham Festival and then at the Grand National meeting at Aintree. Trainer Nicky Henderson conducted a thorough assessment during the summer to prepare Constitution Hill for the Fighting Fifth Hurdle at Newcastle, but the horse fell at the second hurdle in the race.
Henderson has dismissed the idea of retirement for Constitution Hill and is considering transitioning the horse to flat racing. McCoy shared his insights on the situation during an episode of William Hill’s Inside Track, suggesting that despite the falls, Constitution Hill should continue racing over hurdles due to his talent and care provided.
On the other hand, William Hill ambassador Barry Geraghty, who initially purchased Constitution Hill, proposed exploring options to improve the horse’s jumping ability before making a decision on his future racing career. Geraghty recommended seeking assistance from expert Yogi Breisner for innovative training methods to address the jumping issues.
The fate of Constitution Hill remains uncertain as decisions are being weighed on whether to persist with hurdles or explore alternative avenues for the talented horse’s racing career.
