Nigel Farage is under pressure to denounce the outdated views expressed by one of his party members who criticized the emergence of an “LGBT supporting” coalition. Danny Kruger, who recently switched from the Conservatives to Reform UK, raised concerns about a mix of left-wing parties including those advocating for LGBT rights and supporting Hamas.
Kruger’s comments have been criticized as antiquated and inappropriate, prompting calls for Farage to disavow them. This backlash follows a previous incident where Farage expressed anger over a derogatory statement made by another Reform member, Sarah Pochin, regarding the portrayal of Black and Asian individuals in advertisements.
During a membership promotion event for Reform UK, Kruger cautioned that the UK could potentially be governed by a radical party supporting Hamas and LGBT causes. He highlighted the party’s competition against Liberal Democrats, Labour, Greens, and nationalist parties in Wales and Scotland, suggesting a concerning political landscape in the country.
Kruger emphasized the importance of supporting Reform as a measure to prevent the formation of an extremist coalition post-election. Polly Billington, a Labour MP, condemned Kruger’s remarks as divisive and urged Farage to take a stand against such rhetoric. She underscored the threat posed by Reform’s divisive politics to British values of decency and respect.
Kruger, when pressed by reporters at a London press conference, failed to elaborate on his concerns regarding LGBT rights, instead emphasizing the perceived incoherence of the opposing political factions. He contended that voting for Reform would ensure a sensible and moderate government.
A Labour source criticized Kruger’s remarks as distasteful and regressive, emphasizing that such views have no place in mainstream politics. This controversy comes after Kruger’s previous controversial remarks on marriage in 2023, where he asserted that traditional heterosexual marriages were essential for a successful society.
Reform UK has been approached for comment on Kruger’s statement, as the party faces increased scrutiny over its members’ controversial remarks.
