A mother who consumed wine at a UK airport before causing a disturbance when denied boarding a plane due to intoxication has attributed her behavior to “burnout.”
Leanne Burns, a 44-year-old mother of two, had arranged a trip to Faro, Portugal, last October with her children aged eight and five. Upon arrival at Manchester Airport, she ensured her kids had food and drink before buying a drink for herself at the bar. Subsequently, she purchased a bottle of wine from duty-free and continued drinking.
However, when it was time to board the plane, Leanne was prevented from doing so, leading her to become agitated and demand entry onto the aircraft. Consequently, she was apprehended, barred from the airline, and spent a night in custody before being released without charges the following day.
Nearly a year later, Leanne has distanced herself from social media, sought counseling, and focused on eliminating negativity from her life. As a care worker, she admitted her mistake, expressing a desire to improve and rebuild her social life while affirming her commitment as a mother.
Leanne frequently took her children on overseas vacations to create happy memories but believes she was experiencing burnout during the incident. In the same year, she completed the London Marathon, visited Turkey with her kids, and felt overwhelmed by her responsibilities and lack of personal time.
Reflecting on the day of her arrest, Leanne recalled feeling shocked by her actions, attributing her behavior to stress and overindulgence in alcohol. Since then, she has undergone cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and emphasized the importance of seeking help and open communication with loved ones to manage burnout effectively.
Leanne’s experience serves as a cautionary tale about the consequences of neglecting mental health and the need to prioritize self-care and seek support when feeling overwhelmed.
